As I retire and leave the parish I want to thank you for your kindness, generosity, love and support over the last 10 years. I have been very happy here and will greatly miss being part of this great vibrant faith community.
This week I have been receiving lots of cards, gifts and good wishes. Many have named the past events and developments in parish. I am leaving with great memories of my experience in this community. We are blessed to have a very diverse, multi-cultural group of people. I would like to think that we have enabled people to grow in their faith, to develop a deeper relationship with the message and person of Jesus Christ. As a parish our first task is always to bring people to Jesus Christ. Our Masses and our celebrations have been a huge support to me in the growth of my faith. I have felt the energy, the faith and unity as together we shared in the proclamation of the Word and celebrated the Sunday Eucharist together.
This parish has a great heritage and I am pleased that we have established an enthusiastic Heritage Group and that we have completed the preservation work on the Reading Abbey Ruins in our site. Over the years we have done several pilgrimages; four to the Holy Land, one to Rome and Assisi, six ‘Walking the Camino’ in Spain and a yearly pilgrimage to the Shrine to Our Lady in Walsingham.
We have now established a Leadership Team, a Planning Team and in recent times have been meeting on ‘Zoom’ with the key parish leaders and sharing with them the our vision, plans and hopes for the future of the parish. I feel we have established a strong lay led parish community using peoples gifts and talents.
Please give Fr Chris Heaps a warm welcome and your full support as he joins this great community in September.
