We continue to reflect on the shocking events, the tragic deaths, the terrible injuries that took place in our town on a sunny evening in Forbury Gardens. We feel a sense of great sadness and regret. It is as if we have known Joe, James and David and feel a personal sense of loss. We continue to pray for them and their families who grieve and mourn their loss.
At the Civic Vigil Service last Saturday evening I was pleased to meet with Anne Kennedy who is one of our parishioners and the Co-Head at the Holt School where James Furlong was a teacher, and to hear how they have all been commemorating James’ life. I also met with Gary and Janet Furlong, the parents of James, and his brother. They are a Catholic family from Liverpool and have arranged a funeral Mass for James in the Cathedral in Liverpool. Since then I have spoken to Canon Tony O’Brien of the Cathedral and asked him to convey our prayers and sympathy to the family at the Funeral Mass for James. I have sent a Mass card from the Parish.
