Pentecost, seen as the birthday of the Church, is the end of the fifty days of Eastertime.  Today we celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles.  They were given the courage to go out into the world to proclaim that Jesus was the Messiah. Following His death, God raised Jesus to new life.  The Disciples were so transformed that they turned the Roman Empire upside down.

Today in a very dramatic way we hear of the coming of the Spirit – wind and fire.  The Disciples were transformed with the gift of different languages, and began to tell people about the Risen Lord.  Today we reflect on the role that God has for each one of us.  We too have been given the Holy Spirit.  What contribution can I make this week to the Mission of today’s Church in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ?
