My thanks to you all for your good wishes, prayers, support, gifts and love on the 50th Anniversary of my Ordination to the Priesthood. I am pleased to celebrate with you this Mass of Thanksgiving and look forward to the Reception at St Joseph’s College. I feel very embarrassed by all this attention—roll on Monday !
I was ordained on the 7th June 1969 in Carlow College, along with 23 others. Looking back it seems to have passed by so quickly and I find it hard to believe that 50 years have flown by. I have served in parishes in Bournemouth, Leigh Park Havant, Guernsey CI, Cosham, Southampton and finally to Reading. Having completed a years study on RE in Dundalk, I served for 11 years as advisor in Religious Education and Catechetics in the diocese. It was during these years that RCIA was launched, Sacramental Preparation was taken out of the schools and moved to the parishes and the training of people to be Ministers of Holy Communion began. After this I had a year at Loyola University in Chicago in 1991.
It has been a rich and varied experience as a priest and today I thank God for the many blessings and for the kind people in the parishes and schools who supported and loved me during the past 50 years.
