Fr John celebrated his 50th priestly anniversary mass alongside celebrant priests from various other dioceses and parishes. The memorable and gracious event that occurred on June 6th at the historic St James Catholic church in Reading, saw many well wishers amongst whom where parishioners attend to pray and rejoice with Fr. John who was the main celebrant for the Eucharistic celebration.
Plans are also underway to mark the once-in-a-life-time occasion with a THANKSGIVING MASS at St James Church followed by a RECEPTION at St Joseph’s College, Upper Redlands Road in Reading. Parishioners and well wishers interested in attending are are encouraged to make their intentions known by signing up after each Sunday mass and making a meal choice. Scheduled for Sunday 14th July at 11am the meal choices include options of Barbecue, Hog Pork Roast, Curry or Veggie. Last date to sign-up is 30th June.
A 50 hours of Prayer to celebrate Fr John’s 50th Anniversary of Ordination starts this Friday 7th June and runs until Sunday 14th July. Diana Polisano and Jo Hopkins are kindly organising this. Featuring reflections for the first 7 days and supported by a 50hrs prayer booklet, this spiritual theme for Father John’s anniversary also involves a ‘Prayer Tree’ which will go up in St James on Wednesday.
