On Thursday, a Holy Day of Obligation, we mark the return of the Risen Lord to the Father as he takes his place in glory. The message of the Ascension is NOT that Jesus flew into the sky but rather that Christ returns to the Father having achieved what he was sent to do: to save us from spiritual death and alienation from God due to our sins. Just as Christ ascended so will we be raised up body and soul at judgement day. The Ascension is a call to all of us to conversion, to turn round together. Also it marks the handover of the building of God’s kingdom to you and to me. Mass is at 12.15pm and 7.30pm at St James and will be celebrated by Fr Richard.
