Sacramental Preparation
ABC
Group
ABC (About Becoming Catholic) is the parish group which helps
adults prepare for the sacraments of Initiation (baptism, confirmation
and eucharist). The group includes leaders, candidates and their sponsors
from the parish community.
The meetings
include a Gospel reflection and an input from people in the parish about
various aspects of our faith and Catholic tradition.

Infant
baptism
Any parent/guardian resident in the parish or regularly worshipping
at either of our two churches and who wishes their child to receive the
Sacrament of Baptism is asked to make an appointment to see the Parish
Priest.
Baptisms are ordinarily celebrated on the first Sunday of the month, outside
the period of Lent.
We provide a two session preparation course which parents are expected
to attend prior to their child's baptism. Godparents are also welcome
to attend.

Eucharist
Any parent/guardian with children resident in the parish or regularly
worshipping at either of our two parish churches and who wishes their
child to receive the Sacrament of Eucharist and celebrate the Sacrament
of Penance is asked to contact the Parish Priest.
Children wishing
to make these sacraments should have completed their eighth year of age
by the time they receive these sacraments and should already be baptised.
Our parish preparation
sessions are advertised in November-December each year to begin in January
of the following year. Our parish celebration of First Communion usually
occurs on a Sunday in June.

Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation is available to anyone who is in
year seven of secondary school, who is aged at least eleven at the time
of preparation and has already received the sacraments of baptism and
eucharist.
Ordinarily,
it is conferred either by the diocesan bishop or his representative. In
our parish, the sacramental preparation sessions are offered every two
years.

Sacrament
of Matrimony
Anyone wishing to arrange a wedding at either St James church
or St William of York church is advised to see the Parish Priest on the
Saturday mornings that he is available between 11am and 1pm but please
contact the parish office in advance to be given an allotted time.
Please note
that, to secure the date of your wedding, ordinarily we require six months'
notice.
It is a diocesan requirement that all couples wishing to receive this
sacrament be properly prepared; in this parish such preparation takes
place both by their discussions with the Parish Priest and by their attendance
at a Marriage Preparation Day, details of which are provided by the Parish
Priest.
